It’s hard to describe being in Red Wall Cavern, and photos certainly seem to sell it short. One day I’m sure I will try my hand at painting the magnificent limestone alcove and it’s pristine beach, nestled in the heart of Marble Canyon.

But once you’ve stuck your toes into the soft sand and spent some time looking for fossils of crinoids and trilobites, your eyes inevitably gaze back from where you came. The upstream view from Redwall Cavern in the morning is truly a sight to behold. I know I will be painting the Canyon in many forms for many years to come and I don’t believe I will ever do it justice. But this piece is part of this ongoing study of a place that has never failed to take the breath from my body.
